Louisiana based artist Leigh Buffington creates paintings that arise from a feeling of being changed by the sense of connection to something larger. Because she lives and paints where her family has lived for generations, she has a strong sense of history in her natural surroundings. Her home always provides an entangled and sultry backdrop to gather ideas for her landscapes. She paints representational and abstract pieces where she is expressing her experience on the bayou with bold colors, shapes, and lines. She uses oil and cold wax in her paintings to build layers, scraping off and adding to. This feels more like sculpting than merely applying paint to a surface.
