Collection: Debbie Porter

Debbie Porter, is a glass blower from Winnfield. Her interest in creating art began just over 5 years ago when introduced to glass blowing for the first time. She was immediately hooked and found herself fascinated by the medium of glass. She has taken classes at High Gravity Glassworks in Shreveport, as well as Corning Museum of Glass and Tulsa Glass Blowing School. She currently has a glass display at the Biedenharn Museum in the "Scriptures Through Many Eyes" exhibit.

Math education has been her career for 27 years and she is currently a mathematics instructor at NSU in Natchitoches.  As a mathematician, her interest in art naturally tends to subscribe to the “form follows function” train of thought. Concepts of geometry and physics clearly play out in the movement and shaping of the glass. Angles, forces, parallel and perpendicular are brought to life in glass!

On the contrary, she has found the serendipitous aspects of glass freeing. Experimental technique and creative applications of glass are of special interest to her as well. The motion of glass as it is pulled, blown, and molded is particularly powerful as she continues to develop her own artistic style.
