Susan Ackerman

Based in Upstate NY Susan Ackermans' love of surface design began in high school.  She was incredibly fortunate to have an art teacher who introduced her to all things fiber.  Susan earned her BFA at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. Leading a successful career as a textile designer formed the basis for how she processes and develops ideas into functional pieces. The inspiration for her textiles and work on paper is rooted in nature. She is drawn to the colors, textures and patterns of the plants, flowers and leaves in her own backyard. She is currently exploring printing and dyeing vintage textiles.  She loves the idea of transforming previously used fabric-with its inherent flaws-in to something with a new value and intention.
